What is the Leaping Bunny Standard?
The Standard is short for the Corporate Standard of Compassion for Animals, a voluntary pledge that cosmetic, personal care, and/or household product companies make to clear animal testing from all stages of product development. The company's ingredient suppliers make the same pledge and the result is a product guaranteed to be 100 percent free of new animal testing. All Leaping Bunny certified companies such as Beauvivo must be open to independent audits, and commitments are renewed on an annual basis.
Does the law require animal testing?
No. Neither the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) nor the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission requires animal testing for cosmetics or household products, respectively. There are sufficient existing safety data as well as in vitro alternatives to make animal testing for these products obsolete. While it is true that virtually every ingredient, even water, has been tested on animals in the past, we can help prevent future animal testing.
What does ‘no new testing’ mean?
Virtually every ingredient, even water, has been tested on animals in the past. The Leaping Bunny Program seeks to prevent future animal testing so companies like Beauvivo must agree not to conduct any animal testing after a fixed cut-off date. Our Standard is the only one that guarantees a product to be free of new animal testing.
Why does a product say, "not tested on animals," but is not on the Leaping Bunny Certified list?
Products may claim to be "cruelty-free" or "not tested on animals,” but their claims may only refer to the finished product. As you may be aware, the majority of animal testing occurs at the ingredient level. Similarly, some companies may state, “We do not test on animals,” when in fact they merely contract other companies to do the testing. These kinds of statements are often confusing and misleading for consumers. As a Leaping Bunny Certified Company, no part of the ingredient sourcing and production process of any Beauvivo Products involves animal testing.
What's the difference between the Leaping Bunny list and other lists I have seen?
The Leaping Bunny Program offers not just a list, but a Standard—the only Standard that guarantees a product to be free of new animal testing. While many ingredients have been tested on animals in the past, the Leaping Bunny Standard is designed to prevent future animal testing and eventually drive animal testing out of the industry completely. In addition, the Leaping Bunny Standard is internationally recognized. Formed from the nation's largest animal protection groups, the CCIC also partners with animal protection groups in Canada and Europe.
What is the difference between Leaping Bunny Logo users and non-logo users?
All Leaping Bunny companies must comply with the same Standard. Obtaining the Leaping Bunny Logo is an optional step that some companies choose for marketing purposes.
